"We got one for the first time this year and it is wonderful, delicious gingerbread, well packaged, and straight forward to assemble. Will be ordering again next year for sure!"
The business concept arose (as so many business concepts arise!) one Christmas when Estelle & Richard were on holiday and bought a gingerbread house kit, only to be disappointed by the results. The product was small and unexciting, with pre-packaged ingredients made overseas.
They soon approached Richard's old friend, Michael, who by this time had become the Managing Director of Nada Bakery. Michael had made many gingerbread houses for in-store display, and his gingerbread was baked from a family recipe that contained a unique blend of spices that gave it a great taste and fragrance.
The original product went through many refinements and alterations until Estelle settled on a product that was robust and simple, but fun and challenging to construct, with a nice little chimney to put on the roof.
The first few packaging delivery rounds were not very successful - out of the first five products that were packaged and sent across the country, four boxes arrived with pieces broken! Realising this would not do, the team set about finding a way to package the product that would cut down on delivery breakages, leading to the Breakages Guarantee.
The end result was a gingerbread house kit made at home in New Zealand, priced affordably and guaranteed against breakage from delivery, to provide a great little addition to the kiwi Christmas.
Manager & Baker
Michael is the manager at Nada Bakery, a quality baker, and is the current president of the Baking Industry Association of New Zealand. His in-depth knowledge and practical insight was essential in putting together the gingerbread house concept, and his packaging process helped to cut down the number of breakages to ensure that customers receive a great end product.
Sales & Marketing
Estelle & Richard came up with the idea one Christmas after ordering a small gingerbread house kit and being a bit disappointed with the result. Richard works full-time for Zeald in Wellington and has personally audited over 200 websites across the Wellington region. During the weekend he also runs a small motel on the Kapiti Coast in Wellington.
